There is no rational or scientific way that organised religions can have a modicum of truth or factual reality because of the very reason that these books are entombed in the time that they were written. These books should therefore simply be viewed as limited parables and historical fiction, as well as a lesson in how millions of people can be so easily controlled.”
The research paper also came to the conclusion that reward/punishment religions, as control systems, were losing their grip on most of the population of the world and only a few die-hard fanatics and delusional maniacs were carrying on with the flame of idiocy.

Firstly, I doubt Muhammed ever spoke to Gabriel. Second, angels do not have a form, but appearances. That is, spirits don’t look like anything per se. When they appear, they assume human forms, often in white robes. They don’t actually ‘look’ like anything. For example, why would an angel need teeth, which are for eating, or other parts. Or even two eyes, if the only reason we have two is to allow for binocular perception of 3-D space.

It is a misconception that all the animals of the world today and throughout history need to have been brought on the Ark. This is a misunderstanding of biology.. Much like you can have many different breeds of dog (and we do), there needed only to be a prototypical type of animal to be the ancestor of all dog type of animals (it may have been a wolf). Horses and zebras are probably the same core animal, which have varied according to their different habitats and climates. Thus, only a subset of today’s animals need have boarded the Ark, without a problem. The Ark was HUGE, and the dimensions were given directly from God Himself, so we know this. The bible also says that ever living thing was vegetarian before the flood, but God put a curse such that animals would now eat each other, and we were to eat them as food, also. This only happened after the flood, so dietary needs of the animals weren’t too varied, and didn’t involved meat whatsoever.
It is unknown who exactly wrote about Adam and Eve, but if they were inspired, or direct descendants of Adam and Eve (which they would have been anyway), they surely had a written or oral tradition recorded sufficient to write this account.

In case you missed out it specifically starts with “And”, which means there is a verse before that and if you look you will see that the verses that precede it are Surah 2:190: “Fight in the way of Allah those who fight you but do not transgress. Indeed. Allah does not like transgressors.”
It says “fight those who fight you”, meaning self-defense and not unjust killing.
and BTW Surah 193 ends “But if they cease, then there is to be no aggression except against the oppressors.”, which means that we should show them mercy as soon as they give up their oppression towards innocent people.

Actually the claim was that all religious books are written by man to which I claimed otherwise when referring to the holy Quran. Some of the other books have contradictions in them and the holy Quran does not in its writings. Logically speaking, human writings consist if errors from time to time, but the Quran’s writing however does not. According to the description of God, He is void if any mistakes, contradictions or errors, therefore it is written by Him and not man. I hope this answers you question.

It is what is written even though we can’t go back in time and see it for ourselves. Also Muhammad PBUH was a prophet who could always talk to God and spread His message so it is not for us to critique on what happened to him that day.
And it wasn’t a horse, it was a white creature called the Buraq which was smaller than a mule and bigger than a donkey that was regarded as the heavenly steed of the prophets. So it wasn’t of earth at all. That happened in Prophet Muhammad PBUH’s life and nobody else knew of what happened that night except him. But he was completely honest and brought proof with him as well which is why he earned the trust of so many around him.
Muhammad couldn’t always talk to god as far as I know. He received most of his revelations during sleep and communicated through Gabriel.

I was born muslim, in a Islamic republic country. I’ve read the whole book twice, in Arabic, a language I can only read but not completely understand. This was not my choice as it’s very common for parents to force it upon their children. Third time I got a translated version, but soon I thought about what would be lost in translation. I was about to learn Arabic used in the book but thankfully I met reason. I might be meeting it again in college though, its a government requirement.
There are far better books I’d rather read read first.
I don’t know how old you are, but if you’re still young I urge you to think for once without the fear or emotional attachment towards religion. Don’t look for proof, look for dis-proof. Think about ancient sun worshipers. You won’t need any books for this, only a little reason and lot of bravery. Now remember this feeling..that is if you made it thus far..

I’m really confused. If you’re a person of reason, then you should know that nobody is born as anything in this world except as a simple human being. Nobody is Muslim, Christian, Jew, judge, police officer or anything else by birth. It is simply nurture that plays a big role.
I am also born into a Muslim but my parents never forced me to follow Islam and neither was I very comforting to it in the first place. Overtime I was told that no one should be forced to follow Islam because according to the Quran, compulsion is forbidden. I was fascinated by this, but I just couldn’t bring myself to it yet.
As time went by my Islamic professor not only helped us recite the Quran but also explained it to us and showed us signs and evidences in people’s behavior around the world in exactly the same way as the Quran describes them.
Here you are talking about reason when that is what the Quran actually teaches. It doesn’t say to have blind faith or close your eyes and believe. The reason God gave us these five senses is so that we can perceive the world in the most just and transparent manner possible.
We may not control nature, time or matter, but that doesn’t mean that we should in order to live our lives.
I believe you giving up on trying to understand the Holy Quran is where your problem actually lies. With that in mind, you should get back in trying to decipher what it truly means to say.

There are things a god could have described, to at least prove such knowledge thousands of years later – like televisions. People weren’t using electricity back in those days, but there could have been verses on how something similar to lightening would be used in the future, which would able to us to view moving pictures in cube shaped boxes (tvs), for example. There COULD have been things said by a god to show knowledge.
But nothing was said to show scientific knowledge. And even if it had, all it would have shown, was that some being knew of scientific knowledge more than any human did – an alien could have visited, for example.
So even if you had one single thing in the Quran that showed a knowledge far beyond any human mind at the time – which you don’t, because there is none, it would still not be proof of a god.

First of all, it is forbidden in Quran to kill someone. So, if you see a muslim who kill another people (Muslim or not muslim) then he must not really know about Islam (Islam here is someone who apply Quran and Hadith in his life). It is clearly mentioned in the Quran that if you kill someone in the earth then it means that you kill all of the people in the earth so you can imagine how big the sin for muslim to kill people. So that’s why, Islam say that is forbidden to kill someone.
Secondly, yes you are right the penalty of apostasy is hell but who deserves to give punishment for apostasy, that is only Allah, our creator. For comparison in our daily life, if you have 2 children then they are fighting each other. Do you think who deserve to give them advice?one of them or you as a parent? if you already give them advice and advice again but they are still fighting, then who do you think deserve to give them punishment? one of them or you as a parent? It same when you work in the big company then you make a small mistake and you still work for them, I think your boss will accept your apologise but then if you resign from that company without any clear reason, do you think your boss will not disappointed with you?

The Christian Bible has evolved down the years and been ‘sexed up’ along the way. For instance in the earliest bibles found the Gospel Of Mark ends with the tomb of Jesus being found empty and the women visiting running away in fear. I almost took you seriously, I really did. As soon as you said “Christians hate anyone that doesn’t believe as they do” I couldn’t agree with your comment. What you don’t realize is that there are people who call themselves Christians and think they are Christians, but show no evidence of it at all, so they hate people, and basically do anything they want and still put the “Christian stamp” on their title when they introduce themselves.

Evolution isn’t something you get to choose to believe in or not, it’s something to accept. Facts are still facts whether you believe they are true or not.
A thing is called a “fact” when it is universally and independently testable to hold true in 100% of isolated incidences. What we experience as fact is nothing more than quantum coherence. Decoherence is not impossible though it is insignificantly unlikely for most purposes of testing. Quantum tunneling and beta decay are examples of the probabilistic nature of our universe. Therefore an educated atheist should understand that “fact” and the observable universe are somewhat at odds with each other.
Obviously it is a bit of a stretch to apply the quirky, probabilistic behavior of quantum physics to loving and possessing such great faith as to heal a leper or change the chemical composition of a liquid, but my point is merely to reiterate the recent revelations that time doesn’t actually exist and thus causality is a very well organized and extremely stubborn illusion with a correspondingly high probability of success.
I ask you this: If during a continuously compiling run-time simulation a programmer decided to modify a computation or tweak a value, would the program itself or any constituent therein be aware of the change? Though they would certainly be affected, the nature of the observer would observe nothing more than the laws that real time has consistently manifested. If something is changed in real time and that change is not observed or recognized, the future can be changed consistent with causality and, in retrospect, be considered in line with “fact” (e.g. laws of thermodynamics, etc). That doesn’t mean causality is infinitely preserved, but rather that causality is only retroactively conserved to maintain the illusion.
In a program it would be no different. Sure, there would be a trail for any change if one were to dig far enough into the hardware procedures, but unless some sort of monitoring subroutine iteration were built into the code it would be lost in countless memory cycles almost instantaneously. There is no such “monitoring” program available to mankind that would identify the signature of our Creator, aside from the breadcrumbs He provides to lead us to Him. Our reality is too complex with variables and subroutines and, if there is a God, He’s obviously much smarter than us and capable of hiding to preserve free, conscious will.

Religion is simply the most destructive social disease we as humans have constructed to inflict on ourselves. We can’t even accurately count how many people have been killed directly in its name; an activity which continues to this day. That number would encompass count those killed by their own hand as a direct result of self-destructive religious teachings. It teaches us that we are, at our cores, terrible beings and in large part for the urges that, in their paradigm, “god” instilled in us as mammals.
It creates in us the poison and simultaneously sells us the antidote. The cost of this antidote is nothing less than the complete surrender of our whole beings; body, mind and “soul.” That’s not much of an existence in the first place and to call it “free will” as christians often do, is asinine. It’s as transparent of a control mechanism as I can think of.
Religion creates the demons it claims to fight, both outside and inside those who are bound by it. In reality, however, without these fabricated shadows, demons and specters their paradigm would simply and thankfully dissolve. I look forward to the day when we realize that the shadows moving in the night are at best our own imagination and at worse just nefarious humans.
There is a laundry list of ways that human civilization would be so much further along if not for the tyrannical fears of the religious? Medicine and anatomy being the topic that casts the longest shadow in my opinion. What would we be able to cure, repair or vaccinate against if religion hadn’t been so solipsistic to think that medicine was blasphemy? How much further along would we be if we were able to study disease and not just chalk it up to demons?
The classic argument for religion, “where would we be without the morals that religion teaches?” is also nonsense. Religion usurped some of the best ideas of humankind. Compassion, empathy, charity, etc. are all espoused by religion, but those ideas were not born of it. Human societies put these ideas into practice long before religion reared its schizophrenic head. I would go one step further and say that religion has perverted and weaponized these ideas by backing self-righteous uses of the opposites of these virtues against those who think differently.

Question 1. Just think for one second, if ‘God’ or a ‘messenger of God’ had written that particular religious book/bible, how come the writings only occur within a very limited period in human history
The Bible is quite complete, there were only about 250 miracles in the Bible, which may be a lot, but they all had huge time gaps, like 800 years or so, Jesus had all His miracles in His lifetime sure, but a lot of the things He did had prophecies fulfilled from the Old Testament, which were written thousands of years ago, not all at one time, according to carbon dating. Prophecies that predicted stuff with great similarity, seriously read psalm 22, it has tons of similarities to the resurrection, my hands and feet are pierced, and these are not out of contex, it is an entire chapter, an entire psalm.
And sure God doesn’t write the Bible himself, but God’s also not writing this, the Bible is just God’s word written by people inspired by God, just like the people in the Bible were inspired by God, I am inspired by God to write this. People don’t come to Christ by logic, they come to Christ by experience, so me arguing won’t do anything, except annoy you more and make you deny God, if people only come to relegion by experience, by dreams, by morals, right and wrong, then that proves there’s something out there making those dreams, and were all not just lunatics.
The reason that athiest arguments are always so scientific, is because artificial arguments, that don’t come from the Bible, are always much more complex then original, you can see theistic arguments that are very very complex, and take an hour to explain, just like in this one vid a watched called undisputed evidence of God or something, and I was like whaaaaat, this makes no sense, the same with atheistic arguments, the inductive ones at least. But here’s the thing, you rarely see atheists giving their own argument against Christianity, you always see them saying there’s no evidence, or that it is illogical for God to be real, you only see the large atheists making their own arguments, the ones that are in front of millions of people as they make their argument, then then Christian has to be defensive. But in that case, doesn’t that mean that Christianity is farther then atheism, because if you are always leading with new arguments, and atheists are always trying to destroy those arguments, then Christianity is making more arguments then atheism, and therefore atheism is falling behind. You never see moderate atheists making their own arguments, it’s mostly 90% being deductive to Christianity. That’s because the atheists arguments are too complex for a normal human to understand, and they either don’t know what their talking about, or just don’t talk about their arguments, cause the best arguments for Christianity, are the ones that show it is true, and the best arguments for atheism, are the ones that show that Christianity is untrue, but notice there’s no proof for why atheism is true. That’s because atheists use more blind faith then Christians.
Even Richard Dawkins admits that he can’t provide the kind of proof for atheism that atheists ask believers to provide for their theism. So there is a double standard at work here. Basically saying, atheists want more proof from Christianity, then they can provide for atheism.
Reward and punishment relegions are not just control systems because here’s the thing, reward and punishment is just the system of our morals, your conscience is where we get out moral values from, we’ll shouldn’t we just evolve out of it, like evolution states. If we did our morals would be all different now if we evolved out of it. Also even more evidence of God, you notice every newborn child has an ok conscience. (I mean were all sinners at birth, but it’s an ok conscience) Conscience doesn’t carry on genetically. You can destroy your conscience from the world, but you can’t give that to your newborn, they will always have a fresh start to believe in God. (another example of how religion is a personal thing now a thing you do because your friends are doing it) God is graceful enough to give every child a new conscience, if everybody didn’t get new consciences, then the worlds morals would be way different from before, because messages from books don’t stay around for thousands of years, there has to be a different special force that doesn’t genetically evolve (our conscience) to keep our morals straight to The Bibles, and there has to be another special force that God gives so The Bibles text don’t pass away.
This text here doesn’t have very many arguments, I hope I’ve clarified some for you, really the only arguments are in the first three paragraphs, the rest is just explaining about cause and effect and how presidents may be angry, makes sense, but doesn’t provide any real evidence that athiesm is true, so yes people have reasoning powers today, but they still are quite as blind as before, people use blind faith in choosing which path they want to go down, athiesm or theism, and they use that blind faith to pick the argument that sounds more scientific, just like when their in science class and they pick the answer that sounds the most scientific because they don’t know what their picking. extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence, so what sort of evidence for the jesus of the bible having actually existed do you have, that no theologian, museum, historian, apologist, or, even the vatican, has seen yet. Cause, thus far, there is no real evidence for jesus having really existed, even as a typical human being and there is even less evidence for anyone, jesus or otherwise, having performed even one miracle.
And there are those of us who have experienced the peace of Christ who believe it far more likely that, as you said, Jesus was no different from anybody else save for his steadfast determination to please his Father. Any rational person will at least give credence to the altruistic and wise teachings put forth by Christ even if they do not believe he is God incarnate.
The simple observation that 2000+ years later Christ is far and away the most revered example of the ideal human state above all other contenders speaks for itself: Nobody hangs with the Jesus! The point is that even if Jesus isn’t God incarnate we are still arguing whether or not he was/is God incarnate, and that’s a pretty solid, enduring reward for having been martyred. While countless other martyrs have been lost in time, nameless in our present day, I’ll bet there wasn’t a single one that lived a selfless existence and died a pain-filled, vain-less death without a shred of condemnation for their torturers. I’m a Christian and I totally agree with you. Too much of anything (especially religion) is a very bad thing and an ideal balance needs to be preserved in all aspects of life. That being said, I do not condone “moderate Christianity” because, when I myself attempt to practice this, all hell breaks loose. Literally. Though I cannot surmise what happens after we breathe our last breath, I must be adamant in my assertion that heaven and hell are imminent (ever-present) experiences that guide the faithful in Christ to a Christ-like relationship with the Father. I consider myself a rational, sensible person, but there are just too many remarkable incidents to be chalked up to unintended coincidence.
Hell and heaven are as much an observable facet of life as they are fundamental forces in the universe itself. The bible was written by thousands of different people over thousands of years some over 50 years AFTER Jesus was crucified
The bible was marred by various people in the church adding and subtracting facts to make things look more rosier than they actually were
For example: Jesus was a carpenter – no he was more likely a stonemason; Jesus birthday is xmas day – no it wasn’t no-one knows as they never kept records of births and deaths of poor people in those days and the monk who made the first year AD made a human error, Jesus was a real person who had brothers and sisters, had a wife and children too. Exodus never happened because the egyptians ruled the land and borders
Jesus was crucified – FACT the Egyptians wrote this in their history
Jesus was not the only prophet preaching in those days look at Jon the baptist he was a huge preacher with lots of followers and was beheaded by the Romans – the egyptians wrote it in their history

The Egyptian coptic texts were dated at less than 1200 years old. Jesus was alleged to have lived over 2000 years ago but there are no texts from the time he wa smeant to have lived. In the coptic texts they write that Jesus was a shapeshifter. These were all stories being bandied around during the time the Christian religion was in its infancy.

There is the proof. We jeer at the early apostles, but they knew what they were talking about. 2000 years ago, the very apostles you mock are able to accurately predict what people would say in the end times. Atheists are saying the EXACT THING that Peter prophesied and are playing right into God’s hands and ultimately, His master plan. The passage is still there. God knew what people would say. Peter knew what people would say. So did all the other apostles. Keep your faith in whatever you want to keep it in. It is just simply saying that God’s time is different than our time and his patience is very long, so we have no reason to lay accusations of Him having a “short fuse”.

Please allow me to disagree. I know for certain Jesus never existed and is a fabrication. What about Tacitus he does not mention his sources. At the time of Tacitus, Suetonius and Pliny, Christians were already in Rome, so his source was probably hearsay. This is how Christianity started. No one has the original texts of the ‘Annals’ by Tacitus and there are many inconsistencies in the copies regarding Christians in the text which could have been altered from the original. For example Tacitus mentions the persecution of Christians but no writer wrote about persecutions until the 15th century. In fact it would have been useful for the priesthood to mention that passage before but they never did. Needless to say there are many smoke and mirrors and no one will ever know who actually wrote all this mumbo jumbo. DYOR

Yes at the time of Tacitus Christians and Hebrews were in Rome so they were spreading their stories around. Christianity started that way people telling stories and spreading the word. Soon the Roman Empire adopted Christianity for their purposes and the rest is history. In those days people believed in anything they believed the earth was flat. If you compound belief and blind faith you can make people do and say anything. Jesus is a composite creation of many different deities. If you want to blindly believe in made up inconsistencies without question that’s your prerogative. There is no proof that he ever existed and you know this deep in your heart but refuse to acknowledge it.

Those people you named were all part of Constantine’s fraud. There was a Jesus alright…over 20 of them throughout the history of the world in different religions. They concocted a regurgitated story and fed it to people as something new. I can tell that you have studied and did your research and I respect that, but we have to remember that us as human beings have a tendency to be affected by confirmation bias, myself included. There is still a lot of disputes about Jesus’s deity,but his existence and influence has been universally embraced by most scholars and It’s almost undeniable. In all fairness they could be suffering from confirmation bias as well. I’m a believer in christ, but there are a lot of things in the bible that doesn’t sit right with me, but I have gain a lot of understanding and insight as a result of diligently meditating on scriptures. I once read that people in religious systems or who are religious people attack a persons character every time they do not believe in what there religious beleifs are , so this divides people when some one attacks ones character, who has the right to attack ones character when they do not believe on the same crazy beleifs, so many people do not give themselves the credit for being more lucky or have bad luck as the next person, I do believe people wrote religion to control other people and attacking the persons character is a way of controlling them, just like you reading this you can do what you want and think what you want as long as you are not hurting another person, but I think religion hurts people because it attacks a persons character.

Human nature in the biological sense creates gods in the mind irrespective of culture. We are simply programmed to do so. The key to scientific research is to understand why humans feel the need to create imaginary entities? If you think universally you see that humans need some purpose and they feel lost without it. This is why they created religious systems to try and rationalise the enormity of the universe. Anyone who has dealt with children knows that they are quite literal in their conceptualization of the world and with this strict in their interpretations. Figurative language or vague concepts don’t make sense to them. The idea that something can be true and not true at the same time is an anthem to their entire conceptualization of the world. Like saying you are heart broken. Your literally physical heart is not broken but your conceptual heart may be. A child wouldn’t understand that one is literal and would kill you and the other is conceptual and explains an emotional state but is equally true.
Now let’s look at language for a moment take the term sunrise for example. We know that the sun doesn’t rise and that the illusion of sunrise is the result of the earth’s rotation yet we still continue to use the statement of “sunrise” to describe this relationship between to orbs moving in space. If one wanted to be accurate, literally, they would never use sunrise but conceptually we all know that no one actually means that, and if they do they are ignorant or mad.
I think this drive to literal truthiness is partly driven by certain atheists and their desire to interpret the universe as truthfully as possible and then feeds back to certain theists and back and forth over and over. This leads to theists who need to interpret Genesis as literally true, regardless of contradictions. The earth flooding and giant half-human/half-angels creatures roaming the earth and the such are taken as actual historic events rather than mythological understandings of how the universe and humanity came to be. This literal take is the same thing that seems to fuel many an atheists approach to understanding the universe and the understanding of religious texts. It seems just as imperative for Christian fundamentalists as it does to atheist that the Christian text reads as a literal flooding of the earth.
The idea that ancient humans may have been as nuanced and complex as modern humans causes problems for atheists if they insists on such literal interpretations. The need to feel some how as though they have the truth and that those who disagree are somehow less human seems to be a universal trait though. And this need to feel superior is held by everyone. No one wants to be part of the 50% of humanity who are below average. Because of this we end up associating the groups we associate with with the top, at least, 50% of humanity.
So the idea that God or the gods or what not lives physically in the sky or on a mountain top or at the mouth of a great river or in a physical underworld while looking just like Santa or Schwarzenagger or like a snake headed man or like an elephant man of course appeals to children and a certain set of the population will always be appealing but these are children and those fooled by childish thinking. To understand that the universe and humanity are more nuanced than this is, and with that our conceptualizations of the universe is important to remember.
How much of this is actually the result of human imaginings and how much of it is biological with reinforcement from human imaginings is up to debate. We have an understandable propensity to view light as good and dark as bad just based on evolutionary roots. The same could probably be argued about the sky and ground and the relative position from which blessings are received.
I’m not sure how old you are Rob but i have no doubt that you have internalized and taken for granted multiple concepts that may not be reflective of reality, such as the aforementioned belief that theists imagine a bearded man in the sky is what God is. I know very often I must confront and overcome assumptions I wasn’t aware of, even ones that are obvious in hindsight.
I also would like to touch on a couple of other things real quick. CERN did not recreate the universe. CERN was able to gather data about henceforth only theorized particles. It literally smashed particles together in order to look inside of them to see what we couldn’t before.

The Old testament was written over thousands of years by different people in different positions (or walks} in life . David and Solomon were Kings some were not they were just Rich individuals. The Russian and Chinese experiences are the explicitly non-religious, one could argue religiously anti-religious, but those aren’t the only examples. Manifest Destiny; the common European idea of building empires; the idea of many nations, from the Greek to Chinese, of being the only civilized people and the rest of the world being barbarians; the Mongolians feeling destined to rule the world; and the Empire of Alexander are just a handful of examples of the idea that some people are entitled to power and all that comes with it and some are entitled to nothing or are even subhuman. To put the weight of human atrocity at the feet of one human tool is a gross misrepresentation of what humanity has always done.
The idea that all atrocities are the result of this one thing does a disservice to the idea of attempting to actual overcome these hurdles. It is as though you blame a rapist’s actions on the fact they were drunk and not because their is something in them that lead them to rape. If you were to eliminate alcohol then you would eliminate that excuse for a number of rapes and maybe a few of the rapes but it certainly wouldn’t stop rape of most of it.

So how is it easy to recognize that religion is man made? Is it because man is the only creature to practice it (to the current best of our knowledge)? Only man practices science so it must be man made obviously. Math is only practiced by man so it must be obviously man made.
Language isn’t so obviously man made as the range of vocal interactions between other animals such as dolphins, apes, and canines.
Or what of slavery? We don’t see mass scale oppression of animals by other animals they way we do amongst man. But we have evidence that shows the domination of animals by other animals, the foundation of slavery. So is slavery man-made or just the culmination of inherent patterns developed by man?
Is this same ability to develop the real root of religion? Are these “man made” religions merely just the development of inherent patterns and behaviors that predate man? Or are they attempts to reason out the understanding of phenomenon like math and science are?
If you ask a conservative what is obvious about marriage they will most likely state that marriage is obviously between one man and one woman. If you were to ask the same of a liberal you most likely will get that marriage is obviously an agreement between two people, regardless of gender. What if you were to ask an anarchist? Would they state that marriage is obviously an institution of human oppression? What other obvious opinions exist on marriage. I suppose we can obviously state that it is man made, yes?
What about slavery? For thousands and thousands or years it was obvious that one man or set of men dominating and enslaving another was right and now in the last two centuries it has become obvious that such things are wrong. How could something so obvious be overturned?
What of the sun. It obviously rises on the horizon. Obviously. Go look for yourself. You will see that it obviously moves across the sky and sets in the evening. But such obvious data is not correct is it? From space it becomes obvious that we are in fact on a satellite that is rotating around the sun and that we are in fact the ones turning and it is not the sun that causes night and day.
What of solid matter? Your hand is obviously solid. If you touch your keyboard they push against one another and do not pass through each other. But when you zoom in you find that in fact your hand, the keyboard, and everything else are obviously mostly empty space. How could such obviousness be contradictory?
But let’s go back to your statement that you are (obviously) defending that belief systems are man made. What is obvious? It is obvious that people have constructs by which to approach the world. We have a wide range of constructs ranging from social structures to understandings of the natural world to assumptions about the meaning of words. How many of these are belief systems? All of them.
But these belief systems don’t exist in a void. They are a result of mutual interaction between ourselves and the environment. So how much of their workings are actually not man made at all but rather extrapolated from the environment. Perhaps our understanding and interpretation is man made then, except the evidence continues to grow that we are in fact not nearly in control of our thoughts as we would like to believe. So how many of our blind spots do we say are man made but in fact are not at all?
Now your belief system (perhaps obviously man made) leads you to testify as to what is true. As I have show above such assumptions are dangerous and not actually in accord with reality or fact, necessarily.
Taking the position that something is obviously true is the same behavior that lead to horrors by all kinds of people from Orthodox religionists, to anti-religionists, to rapists. So many people claim this mantle of truth that just examining them in contrast would disprove all of them.
So how it is obvious? And for that matter how it is true. Perhaps God told you? Or do you have evidence that shows the obvious? Although as I have shown the obvious is not necessarily accurate. And what of this truth that you posses. What evidence do you have to prove it is true? If it is your best guess you can admit that. There is nothing wrong with that but claiming it to be true is the foundation of atrocity.

Whenever you are questioned or the logic or foundation of your argument is questioned are you always dismissive? If someone disagrees with you or doesn’t understand how you developed your argument is your first response to write them off? Do you not see the irony of your dismissal when your position is questioned. Isn’t that really the uncritical thinking that we are attempting to get away from? Some things are obvious. Gravity works downwards, the sun is hot, religions are man made. These things are no longer worthy of extended debate. Doctors either alleviate or heal the patient. It modern medicine cannot save them, they die. No heaven or hell. The statement “God exists” is an absolute which cannot be proven true or false. Science refutes god, that is to say the the evidence shows his existence is unlikely. Additionally scientists don’t presume they have the answer before they ask the question. Further more there is anthropological and social science reasons why people believe in god, that doesn’t prove there is a god, but proves we create gods in our heads.

I strongly disagree with the concepts of religion being as "man made" and here's why. First of all, the spirits are very real and binding, they are not something to dabble or play with. There's alot of people who were involved in their chosen path that has changed their lives for the better. It's not changed by the mind or anything in the physical sense. It changed their spiritual sense too. Religion may not be science, but they were founded based on what one has experienced and grown into a very popular one which is why millions are promoting today.

James Cameron and Simcha Jacobovici did a really excellent documentary on Exodus called “The Exodus Decoded” in which they discuss how the First Born of Egypt may not actually be every first born of every Egyptian but rather may be symbolically the First Born of Egypt as the son of the King of Egypt who himself was the living embodiment of Egypt.
According to what I understand the King of the Egypt ruled from a palace called the Pharaoh. Over time proclamations from the King were refereed to as proclamations of the Pharaoh and slowly but surely the two became interchangeable, much as “Today the White House stated…” is a stand in for the President.
Also to take into consideration is that historically the monarch/autocrat/whatnot was seen to be the embodiment of the nation so the King of Egypt was Egypt, this is the origin of the Royal We (or so I understand). So perhaps the death of the first born of Egypt was actually the assassination of the Crown Prince and heir to the throne of Egypt. This could have been carried out by a slave or even during a rebellion by a enemy combatant and attributed to God, just as ones overcoming alcoholism or not dying in a car accident or beating cancer are attributed to God.

The last question was rhetorical, because he didn't. Just because you read some text in a book that you believe to be the truth doesn't make it so, so be quiet and think about what the good doctor has said for a minute.
The truth is that you are to frightened to do this – if you really believed in God, you would shut up and let him worry about what has been said. But deep in you heart of hearts, you know that he isn't there and won't ever come to back up your belief. So you lash out. Only by crying out in such a stylised way as you have in your reply to this post and by seeing the responses of the other lazy, frightened people like you, can you feel safe. Your belief isn't real, it is programmed into you and you are simply too cowardly to test it. Go away and shut up.
